Kathy EdwardsSEIU Healthcare District 1199/wupWhy am I supporting Barack Obama for President? Because it really is time for a change! We can't afford to go through another 4 to 8 years with a Republican agenda that ignores the needs of working families.
When I look at what’s happening now, the war that we should never have been in, the skyrocketing foreclosure rates across the country, the 47 million Americans without health care, and the high rates of unemployment due to industries leaving major cities fleeing overseas. I just can’t imagine my children having to continue to live in times like these. I wonder how a price can be put on ones ability to be able to provide a quality of life for themselves and their families. We all deserve to have family supporting jobs, access to health care and safe and clean neighborhoods. Senator Obama has promised to work towards achieving all these things and more and that’s why I am supporting him for president.
When I hear Senator Obama speak and I review his record as a community organizer, as a civil rights attorney, a Senator, I am convinced that he does and will represent me and will fight for what I want for my children and grandchildren. I believe he will work to change the influence of Lobbyist and Special Interest groups in Washington. He is also the only Presidential candidate who has personally experienced some of my similar life situations so I know he can relate to and address the concerns that many of our members have. Senator Obama has put together detailed plans about how we can improve the lives of all American’s and he has demonstrated his ability to engage many who have been disenfranchised from the political process, especially our youth who are our future. I challenge you to research his platform yourself and I am sure you too will be convinced that he is the right man for the job and can bring about the change in this country that is so desperately needed.

| Heberto Figueroa member SEIU Local 1 volunteering for Barack Obama |
Heberto FigueroaSEIU Local 1I am a proud SEIU member in Wisconsin and support Barack Obama. What fascinates me about Barack Obama is his diverse background. His father was an immigrant from Africa and his mother an American, he grew up in near poverty and had to work his way up and having to do that not only here in America but also living overseas for a period of his life.
Barack Obama has seen the struggles of poverty and has fought against it in Chicago as a community organizer. He is a true fighter for comprehensive immigration reform which is an important issue to our Union. His experience from having little to achieving success serves as a great base to reach out to the poor, middle, upper class to unify this great country to better the social economic issues that effect us daily.
Obama has always been a strong supporter of SEIU and has worn the Purple and Gold colors in the fight for justice and protecting workers rights and he will continue to do so and that is a true inspiration. Yes We Can!! Si Se Puede!!

SEIU Healthcare District 1199/wupI am voting for Obama because I trust him to tell me what I need to hear over what I want to hear. I am tired of politicians saying what they think we want to hear and when it lacks sincerity and their actions say otherwise.
When it was unpopular to talk against the war, Barack Obama had the courage to rally against the war even though many people advised him against it. At an anti-war rally he said he wasn't against all wars, just dumb wars.
That is Barack Obama. Integrity is telling people things even when they may not want to hear it, but still need to hear it.

| Tracy Suprise |
Tracy SupriseSEIU Healthcare District 1199/wupHello my name is Tracy Surprise, I am a member of SEIU 1199 and proud nurse at U.W hospital. Barack Obama is about uniting Americans for the purpose of achieving common goals. He is for possibilities not tweaking the status quo. SEIU members understand that we have differences but we pull together, work hard and get things done. Obama's history of community organizing demonstrates a respect for what ordinary people can accomplish. We need a leader that inspires and focuses on points of agreement. As nurses and health care providers we respect diplomacy, humility, and consensus. We know the problems of health care, violence, discrimination, and economic disparity will be solved by the politics of inclusion not the usual politics of partisan exclusion. We need political leadership that is focused on the United States not red and blue states. That is exactly the leadership Barack Obama offers.
